First, I would like to let you know that, I am a web site designer. I can hear you saying, now here's this guy trying to talk me into signing a contract for designing a web site costing a few hundred to maybe thousands of dollars instead of purchasing a pre-designed web site template for something under a hundred dollars. With the economy these days many companies don't have the money to budget for an expensive web site and there are literally thousands of web designers out there, besides the growing numbers of web template resources. These web site template resources can equal great savings and serviceability for the educated buyer as well as increased business for the web designer. For the buyer it is important to be prepared. The template buyer should know how their website should look, how it will perform, and have the capability to update and build onto it easily, so they are not held hostage by some design firm's technical talk. Now for the reality of web templates. There are hundreds of web sites offering the huge assortment of templates available today. There are templates for a multitude of business models: from apple pie recipes to wedding sites. Depending on your business market you might find hundreds of assorted template packages to decide from. While many may appear very professional and appealing, just bear in mind that you might not be the only company which has purchased this template. It is entirely possible there are other sites with the same design as yours unless you purchase exclusive rights for a template. The price tag for buying exclusive rights for the design will likely ranges from $500 to $4000 depending on the complexity of the template. To purchase exclusive rights to a template you must be the first buyer to purchase the template so it may be used solely by you on your web site or sites. On the other hand, prior to your purchasing this particular template, other customers might have purchased this template and have the same ability to use it, in effect rendering this template as non-exclusive. Alright, this is where I enter the picture, as well as my designer colleagues. The world of web site design is changing as competition is growing daily, and not simply due to the low-cost template designs now available but due to low-cost designers. I am not going to name any certain template design company as there aren't but a few top template designers and they are easily identified when doing a search for web site templates on any major search engine. Web site template modification can be a well-chosen technique to indicate to your customers your willingness to work with them to maintain reasonable design costs. You can always tweak the template, whether it be graphic modifications or changing the text on a page. Generally speaking, due to the high cost and learning curve most small to mid sized companies don't own the software required to perform modifications within the site template or they own the software but don't have the time or expertise required. A professionally designed website template
is a very good beginning which will lower your
initial expenses, just bear in mind that
modifications are most often required as any one
design will never fulfill every need. Web site
template modifications are great since the customer
receives a great product at a reasonable price and
the designer gains a new and satisfied customer. |
